Isaac Mizrahi married his longtime partner Arnold Germer on November 30.
Mizrahi, a 50-year-old fashion designer and television personality, revealed the news on a January 4 episode of "The Wendy Williams Show," saying that he and his boyfriend of six years had taken the next step in their relationship.
Mizrahi said he never planned to marry Germer, but when gay marriage became legal in New York in June, he reconsidered.
"We didn't think we wanted to get married until they said we could in New York," Mizrahi told Williams on an episode that aired on Wednesday, January 4. "We decided to get married when they said it was okay, and then we were at a dinner party, we said ... 'people have ideas.' You have to have a series of parties, Vera Wang has to be called, you know, that lady who makes the weddings ... like, start now. So we were terrified, so we decided to elope at City Hall."
Williams said they now share a wedding anniversary. She and husband Kevin Hunter wed on Nov. 30, 1988.
Mizrahi went on to explain to Williams how he and his partner opted for a private ceremony.
"I didn't really expect it to be like a ceremony, I thought it was just a bunch of paperwork," Mizrahi said. "We went to the chapel ... and then she said 'please come forward' ... I started sobbing, and she said, 'are you alright?' And I said [I'm] fine ... it was one of those moments; I wasn't expecting that kind of emotional, emotional impact. I think when it's right, when it's right, you know it."
"In the end, I think maybe on the year anniversary, we'll have a giant shindig," he added. "And yes, I will call Vera Wang and she will do my dress."
Mizrahi co-hosted the Bravo! series "The Fashion Show" and is also known for his numerous guest spots on other programs, mostly fashion-related shows, and for his outspokenness. He famously groped actress Scarlett Johansson and asked her about her underwear while interviewing her as an E! Entertainment Television reporter at the 2006 Golden Globe Awards.
After New York legalized same-sex marriage, scores of gay couples flocked to the state to tie the knot. "Project Runway" judge and designer Michael Kors wed his longtime partner Lance LePere in Southampton in August. In November, Conan O'Brien officiated the wedding of a costume designer, who works on his TBS talk show, to his boyfriend. The ceremony was featured on the host's program.
