Zooey Deschanel has filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Gibbard, after more than two years of marriage.
Deschanel, 31, and Gibbard, the 35-year-old singer of the rock band Death Cab for Cutie, separated late last year. The actress filed divorce papers at a Los Angeles court on December 27 and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
She also listed October 31 - Halloween - as the date she and Gibbard separated, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday.
Deschanel and Gibbard married in September 2009 and have no children. The two attended the 2011 Emmy Awards together last September.
This was the first marriage for Deschanel, who stars in the new FOX sitcom "New Girl." Her role earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She is also known for films such as "Yes Man," "Almost Famous," the R-rated fantasy comedy "Your Highness" and the 2009 romance drama "(500) Days of Summer."
Deschanel is also a singer - the actress is a member of the indie rock band She & Him.
She and her "(500) Days of Summer" co-star and friend, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, recently reunited and released a YouTube video showing them performing the 1963 Nancy Wilson song "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?"
