Dollar General opening dozens of stores in IE

ONTARIO, Calif.

Job seekers flocked to a Best Western in Ontario, where Dollar General held a job fair on Thursday. The line wrapped around the entire building, and coiled its way up to the standing-room-only room, where people filled out applications.

The grocery chain is expecting to open 30 stores and provide 1,300 new jobs over the next year. This is welcomed news for those looking for work and it coincides with some good employment news nationwide.

Across the country, the number of people seeking unemployment benefits dropped again to its lowest level in over three years. This helped bring the nationwide unemployment rate down as well, from 9 percent to 8.6 percent.

People at the Ontario job fair event for Dollar General said for the first time in a long time, they have some hope.

"I've been unemployed for the past year. I've been applying through agencies, and it's just no luck on getting a job. It's really, really hard. So, I guess this is a good opportunity for people that are looking for a job," said Ontario resident Belen Aguilar.

Ron Tacker with Dollar General said the retailer is offering many kinds of jobs including entry level, field supervision, distribution and management. Tacker said the jobs range from minimum wage to very competitive wages.

After the job seekers filled out the applications they were interviewed at the job fair. Officials said they should hear back about the job within a couple days.
