1 of 2 OC bank robbery suspects still at large

PARAMOUNT, Calif.

The two, believed to be the so-called "Market Duo" bandits, may be responsible for a series of bank robberies in Orange County.

The suspects were chased from a holdup inside a Wells Fargo branch at a Stater Brothers in Placentia around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities said they were believed to have held up the same bank branch on Nov. 21.

Placentia police pursued the suspects on the westbound 91 Freeway. Officers shot one suspect when their vehicle came to a stop in the 8100 block of Century Boulevard in Paramount. That suspect was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

The second suspect fled on foot. Authorities set up a perimeter to search for him. They took a man into custody just before 7:45 p.m., but it was "later determined that the man had no involvement with the incident," sheriff's Deputy Benjamin Grubb said. The second suspect remained on the loose, he said.

The "Market Duo Bandits" were considered the most active bank robbers operating in Orange County. The robbed banks were located in Seal Beach, La Habra, Lake Forest and Placentia.

It was earlier reported that the two suspected bandits were captured, but officials said one man taken into custody was not involved in the case.
