Will LeAnn Rimes follow in the footsteps of actress Lindsay Lohan?

The 29-year-old Grammy-winning country singer has generated mixed reactions about her slim figure. This week, she is making online waves, mostly in the form of Twitter comments, due to a new set of celebrity photos of her frolicking on a beach in a bikini, as seen on the website of Us Weekly.

She was recently asked on her Twitter page if she is set to pose for Playboy. Lohan is the magazine's latest cover girl and filmed a nude photo shoot last year while dealing with legal troubles.

"They've asked 3 times...." Rimes Tweeted in reply to user Dobbie1221, late on Thursday, January 5. "MOM would KILL me but flattering :)."

Representatives for the magazine declined to comment as to if and when Rimes was ever asked to pose for Playboy. Rimes and her husband, Eddie Cibrian, have visited Hugh Hefner, founder of the company, at his Playboy mansion, which often hosts celebrity events.

Rimes married Cibrian, who starred in the short-lived NBC series "The Playboy Cub," in April 2011. Weeks after their wedding, Rimes posted photos of herself in bikinis and raised concern among many that she may have lost too much weight. Us Weekly proclaimed that the singer looks healthier in the new photos, taken in Hawaii earlier this week.

Rimes has often defended her body and diet, especially on her Twitter account, which she often updates several times an hour and uses to chat with fans and critics. She posted a photo of herself in a bikini and a child's float on Thursday (see above).

"That's the thing, I'm real...most of me :) and I've had stretch marks since I was 8," she Tweeted, in response to a reader's comment.

"I have been harassed for 3 years now & I'm sick of the nastiness i see on here," she added on Thursday. "It's 2012 let's be happy," she added. "For those who spend every waking minute talking about my every move, I hope you find some peace in you lives & let me live mine. Thank you and goodnight :)"

Rimes and Cibrian opened up about the subject of bullying at the Trevor Project's annual benefit "Trevor Live" in Los Angeles in December. The group, which leads in suicide prevention efforts among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youths, has garnered much support from the Hollywood community.
