5 injured in Sepulveda Pass multi-car crash

LOS ANGELES

Officials say two young men in a black Infiniti G35 were driving on the wrong side of the road Friday at about 5:15 p.m. during rush hour when they spun out of control and smashed into an oncoming car.

That caused a pileup involving two other vehicles. At least one person had to be pulled from the wreckage.

The young men in the Infiniti were critically injured. Three others suffered less serious injuries. All were transported to area hospitals.

Authorities say the speed limit for southbound traffic in the area is 35 mph, but they don't know how fast the Infiniti was going. Officials have ruled out alcohol and drag racing as possible causes.

The crash shut down the pass between Mulholland and Getty Center. It remained closed overnight because of a widening project. It was slated to reopen Saturday morning.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.

It was earlier reported that four people were injured in the crash.
