Alan Cumming, a Scottish actor who plays Eli Gold on the CBS drama series "The Good Wife," and partner Grant Shaffer recently tied the knot in New York, in what marked their second wedding ceremony.
The two committed to a civil partnership at Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich in London five years ago. Cumming, 46, was previously married to a woman - actress Hilary Lyon. The two divorced in 1993 after eight years.
The actor's spokesperson confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com that the ceremony took place on January 7 at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York, following a report by People magazine.
"I just got married!!!!!" Cumming said on his Twitter page, alongside a photo of himself hugging Grant at a bar. "On the 5th anniversary of our wedding in London grant and I tied the knot again in NYC!!! #eatmericksantorum."
Republican leader and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum is currently running for President of the United States in the upcoming 2012 election, which takes place in November. He opposes gay marriage.
New York State legalized same-sex marriages in June 2011. The actor had at that time posted on his website a photo of himself and Shaffer at their first wedding reception, saying: "Here we are getting hitched in the UK, where gay people are treated with the rights and respect they deserve."
Cumming, a Broadway star who won a Tony for his role in a revival of "Cabaret," lives in New York City. He has lived in the state for more than 13 years and is a U.S. citizen. Shaffer is an artist and illustrator.
Cumming also played Billie Blaikie on the series "The L Word" and has appeared in movies such as "GoldenEye," three "Spy Kids" films, "Eyes Wide Shut," "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" and "The Smurfs." He played Nightcrawler in "X2: X-Men United" and the narrator in Showtime's television adaptation of the musical "Reefer Madness."
Cumming also starred in the 1997 film "Spice World" alongside British pop group the Spice Girls. On January 7, the day of his New York wedding, he Tweeted, "Here I am with the Spice Girls' autographs on my tummy. Took a lot of scrubbing till I could get naked with anyone again," alongside what appeared to be an old photograph of himself lifting his shirt up.
After New York legalized same-sex marriages, scores of gay couples flocked to the state to tie the knot. "Project Runway" judge and designer Michael Kors wed his longtime partner Lance LePere in Southampton in August. In November, Conan O'Brien officiated the wedding of a costume designer, who works on his TBS talk show, to his boyfriend. The ceremony was featured on the host's program.
Also in November, fashion designer and television personality Isaac Mizrahi married his longtime partner, Arnold Germer. He revealed the news on a recent episode of "The Wendy Williams Show."
