HS soccer star remembered; killer still sought

CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES

Police have been working non-stop since that night to find the teen's killer. No arrests have yet been made, and authorities are still trying to identify the Hispanic red-haired young woman who appeared at Rodriguez's doorstep just minutes before he was murdered.

Rodriguez had returned home Wednesday night from winning a soccer game against a rival high school. According to the Rodriguez family, a girl in her late teens with red or auburn hair knocked on the door. They did not know who she was. Francisco looked scared and told his mother he would be outside. Seconds later, shots rang out.

Police said they have served several search warrants and are following up on tips.

"I've got a task force of detectives working on every one of the leads," said Los Angeles Police Lt. David Storaker. "We have not identified a specific person that fits that description yet, but I am hopeful."

The family also noted a dark SUV left the scene, but police want neighbors to think of any other vehicles they saw in the neighborhood during dinner time Wednesday.

Police and the Rodriguez family hope anyone with information will come forward by calling the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) LAPD-247.
