"Homeland" won the 2012 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama on Sunday, January 15, marking the show's first win and nomination in the category.

The terrorism-themed series, which airs on the cable channel Showtime and stars Claire Danes, beat nominees "Enlightened," "Modern Family," "Episodes," "Glee," and "New Girl."

"Homeland" debuted last year. Danes, who plays a CIA officer who once carried out a field operation in Iraq and was then assigned to the agency's Counterterrorism Center in Virgina, later won a Golden Globe for her role. Her co-star Damian Lewis, who plays a U.S. Marine and former prisoner of war, also received an individual nod.

"Homeland" also stars former "V" actress Morena Baccarin as the wife of Lewis' character. Mandy Patinkin of "The Princess Bride" fame portrays the CIA's Middle-East Division Chief, who is the mentor of Danes' character.

At the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, Danes wore a J. Mendel ecru and black gown with a draped front, open back and embroidered cap sleeves. See more photos from the red carpet.
