The Fontana Police Department is asking residents to be on alert to keep their family and pets safe.
Officials gave the following recommendations:
- Always bring your pets in at night and don't leave pet food outside.
- Install motion-sensitive lighting around the house.
- Use garbage cans that have a locking mechanism and use a rope or elastic cord to secure the can to a fence to prevent tipping.
- Always report any sick or injured coyotes, and immediately report to authorities if you or your pet has been bitten or scratched by a coyote.
