2 men arrested for violent armed robberies in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif.

Spencer Irish, 21, and Brent Theriault, 20, both residents of the city of Ventura, were arrested.

Police said the first armed robbery happened on Dec. 30 of last year at Munoz Wireless Communications at 9278 Telephone Rd. They said that the robber pistol-whipped the clerk over the head with a handgun and demanded money. When the clerk didn't respond, the suspect hit the clerk several more times, then fled the store without money or merchandise and ran to an awaiting vehicle parked behind the store.

The second robbery happened Jan. 9 at Hungry Howie's Pizza at 1087 Scandia Ave. The suspect left the restaurant with cash. No one was hurt.

The third robbery was on Jan. 20 in the Pierpont area near Marina Park. One suspect demanded money from a man walking a dog while a second suspect held a gun to the victim's face. The man handed over money and then was pistol-whipped.

During a domestic dispute investigation at a motel, officers discovered evidence indicating Irish, a parolee, was involved in all three robberies. He was arrested without incident.

Officers later determined that Theriault, who is on probation, was the second suspect.

Irish was booked at Ventura County Jail for three counts of armed robbery, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of commercial burglary, felon in possession of firearms, mace, a stun gun and ammunition.

Theriault was booked at Ventura County Jail for one count of armed robbery and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
