OTRC: Producers Guild Awards 2012: Full list of winners

The 2011 film 'The Artist' is a silent, black and white film that depicts the lives of a declining actor named George Valentin, played by Jean Dujardin, and a rising actress named Peppy Miller, portrayed by Berenice Bejo, in Hollywood in the late 1920s. Around that time, silent films began to be phased out and were soon replaced by 'talkies,' or movies with dialogue. James Cromwell plays Valentin's driver, Clifton, while Penelope Ann Miller portrays the silent film actor's wife, Doris. The movie also stars John Goodman as producer Al Zimmer. "The Artist" is picking up steam in the award show circuit leading up to Oscar nominations on January 24.

The silent film took the top honor at the Producers Guild Awards on January 2, beating out heavyweights like "War Horse" and "The Descendants," which took home the Golden Globe for Best Drama last week.

"The Artist" won best musical or comedy at the Golden Globes and the two films are likely rivals for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Television series also took home awards including the Prohibition-era Atlantic City drama "Boardwalk Empire." The show's win kept AMC's "Mad Men" from claiming its fourth straight PGA Award.

Meanwhile, the sitcom "Modern Family" continued its hot streak and took the award for best comedy series for the second straight year, beating "30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory," "Glee," and "Parks and Recreation."
