Winnetka students hold fundraiser, vigil, for fallen classmate

WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES

Rodriguez's former classmates organized the event at Woodland Hills Ice.

"We just needed to do something to be uplifting for everyone," said Rodriguez's friend, Ashlyn Lunog. "And his family just needed something happy to bring up their spirits after a sad incident that happened."

Students also noted that Rodriguez was the third classmate of theirs to die in the past year, making it a very difficult time at the school.

Rodriguez's family members said the support is very meaningful to them.

"It feels good. It's not gonna bring my brother back, but it makes us feel good that he was loved, and he is loved" said Rodriguez's sister, Jessica.

A portion of the proceeds collected from the fundraiser will be donated to the Rodriguez family.

Jason Schumann, 24, of Calabasas, and Elizabeth Ibarra, 19, were arrested Jan. 17 in the murder. Schumann has also been charged in the crime. It is believed Ibarra lured Rodriguez out of his home just before he was shot. Investigators said the shooting was personally motivated.
