11-year-old leukemia survivor writes cookbook

REDONDO BEACH, Calif.

Jack Witherspoon, 11, signed copies of his cookbook "Twist It Up" in Redondo Beach on Monday. Some of the proceeds will go to charities that benefit pediatric leukemia research.

Witherspoon himself has battled the disease three times. He recently underwent a successful bone marrow transplant at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.

"I just hope I can help with as much, finding a cure and making kids not have to go through what I had to, and also just trying to promote my book too," said Witherspoon.

Witherspoon said his cookbook is filled with recipes for comfort food, with a gourmet twist. He said he wrote it to inspire kids to have fun cooking.
