Seal got candid during his appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which aired on Tuesday, January 24, about his recent split from wife Heidi Klum.
The singer was on the show to promote his latest album "Soul 2" which hit stores on Tuesday. His interview can be seen below. Klum and Seal, whose full name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, announced on January 22 that they had decided to separate and end their nearly seven-year marriage.
"I think we were shocked, you know, because you go into these things with the greatest intentions. When you say 'I do,' when you say, Till death do us part,' I mean, those vows hold value," Seal told DeGeneres. "I think we made it clear in the release statement. You just grow apart after a while. I mean, you try and you work through it and the thing that you quickly realize as ... when you are married and you are a parent, is that you do the best that you can. It makes you actually appreciate your parents a lot more."
He added, "The thing that I'm more proud about this great woman that I married, and I really do mean that, from the bottom of my heart, this great woman that I married, is that together, she has given me four incredible gifts, four beautiful children."
The "Project Runway" host and "Kiss from a Rose" singer got married May 10, 2005 and have three biological children together, Henry Gunther, 6, Johan Riley, 5, and Lou, 2. Seal also adopted Klum's 7-year-old daughter, Leni, from her previous relationship with Flavio Briatore. Klum was previously married to celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino.
"She's still, in my opinion, the most wonderful woman in the world and I think our priority was to remain civil and do this thing with dignity. We still very much love each other, "Seal said.
DeGeneres noticed that Seal was still wearing his ring despite the fact that the two officially announced their separation. "Yes, I am still wearing my ring but I think that is just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman," he explained. "Right now, it feels really comfortable on my hand, so I have no intentions of taking it off any time soon."
