"Gossip Girl" was honored by New York's Mayor Bloomberg, as he proclaimed January 26 to by officially named, "Gossip Girl Day."
"Here's a hot tip for Gossip Girl: Spotted - 100,000 New Yorkers making a living from the film and television industry. Could 2011 have been the City's busiest year ever for television production?" Bloomberg said during a press event in celebration of the 100th episode of the CW series. "With our beautiful city talented workforce and the assistance offered by our 'Made in NY' program, New York City has surpassed all previous records for film and television production. We're proud to be home to employers like 'Gossip Girl,' Warner Bros. and Silvercup Studios, and I want to congratulate 'Gossip Girl' on its 100th episode and nearly five seasons of generating jobs and drawing fans to New York."
"Gossip Girl" executive producers Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran and stars Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Matthew Settle, Kaylee DeFer and Kelly Rutherford were present at the ceremony and presented Bloomberg with an "xoxo Gossip Girl" T-shirt.
"Congratulations to @GossipGirl on your 100th episode! XOXO - MB #MadeInNY," the mayor wrote on Twitter with a photo of the ceremony (shown above).
In the 100th episode, which is set to air on January 30, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) is set to marry Prince Louis of Monaco, but it is highly unlikely that Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) will allow his on-and-off girlfriend to go through with the nuptials. From the preview, it appears that Michelle Trachtenberg's character Georgina Sparks will be returning for the occasion.
Westwick recently told E! Online that his chemistry on-screen chemistry with Meester was easy as the actor is "madly in love with Leighton."
When asked how he felt about the wedding, the British actor said that he was prepared to tackle Prince Louis if he has to and promises fans that they should definitely keep tissues handy as, "there will be tears."
"We have the royal wedding happening between Blair and Louis, and I think the big thing is will they, wont they," Westwick said. "Everybody knows how much my character is in love with Blair and how much Blair is in love with Chuck but is she in love with him enough to, you know, what decision will she make? That's a big thing for that episode."
The 100th episode of "Gossip Girl" will air on Monday, January 30 on the CW at 8 p.m. ET. Watch a preview below.
