A posting on the Vassar College website mistakenly indicated that 76 students had been accepted into the school.
Sabrina Sarro was one of the students who thought she got in. The school made a correction within 30 minutes. But she said that was enough time to tell family and friends and the damage had already been done.
"I was a disappointed that Vassar just wrote it off the shoulder like it was no big deal," said Sarro. "I honestly thought they would give those 76 students a personal apology, and really recognize that their system error caused a lot of emotional trauma."
The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., school issued a statement saying, "We put 76 applicants in a terrible position on Friday. Each of those students was informed of the error and received our deepest apologies."
Another 46 students who logged on had been correctly told they were accepted. Students who apply early decision make a commitment to go to Vassar if they are accepted.
