British soccer star David Beckham stripped down for a Super Bowl XLVI commercial to promote his bodywear line for fashion retailer H&M, which hits store shelves on February 2.
In a teaser for the commercial, which is set to air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots on February 5, the soccer player is shown posing in boxer briefs to the Animals' 1965 song, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."
"I'm excited about my bodywear ad featuring in this year's Super Bowl," Beckham said in a statement. "My design team and I spent 18 months developing the collection. It's been a fantastic collaborative experience, and I'm very happy with the end result. Like every fan, I'm looking forward to Super Bowl Sunday."
Other celebrities will also appear in commercials during Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI, including Matthew Broderick who will pay homage to his iconic "Ferris Bueller" role for Honda and race car driver Danica Patrick, who will appear in a Go Daddy ad with the Pussycat Dolls.
The highly-coveted Super Bowl commercial spots are more expensive than any other in the commercial industry and cost an average of $3.5 million for a 30-second spot.
H&M also released a series of photos on the company's Facebook page to promote Beckham's collection.
"Over the past year, I've been developing my bodywear range with my team and I'm extremely positive about what we have designed and produced," Beckham said in a statement when the line was first announced back in July. "The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward, I'm excited and looking forward to showcasing the range to H&M customers from February."
Boxer briefs will sell for $12.95 to $14.95 and tank tops will sell for $14.95. The priciest items are pajama bottoms, long johns and Henley T-shirts, which will retail for $29.95.
The soccer star and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, welcomed their fourth child -- and first girl -- on July 10. The baby's name was revealed on Beckham's Facebook page to be Harper Seven Beckham. Harper, who was born in Los Angeles, weighed in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces at the time of her birth.
Beckham brought his family to Los Angeles when he was transferred to the LA Galaxy soccer team. The pair has three sons, 11-year-old Brooklyn, 8-year-old Romeo and 6-year-old Cruz. The two married on July 4, 1999 in Ireland four months after welcoming their first son Brooklyn.
Beckham joins a string of celebrities who have designed clothing for H&M -- short for Hennes and Mauritz. Madonna and Kylie Minogue have both designed for the fashion retailer.
