OTRC: Leslie Carter, sister of Aaron and Nick Carter, dies at 25

Leslie Carter, sister of Nick Carter of The Backstreet Boys and pop star Aaron Carter, died on Jan. 31, 2012 at age 25 in her father's and stepmother's house in Mayville in upstate New York. Leslie Carter, who was known as Leslie Ashton, is survived by husband Mike, who she married in 2008, and their daughter Alyssa Jane Ashton. The child was born in early April 2011. A police report later suggested that Ashton died of a prescription drug overdose. Her stepmother, Ginger Carterm told authorities that hours before the woman was pronounced dead, she acted depressed. She said she later found that Ashton had fallen in the shower. She said she laid her on a bed and even put her daughter on it 'in the hopes that Ashton would wake up and play with the baby,' according to a police report obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. Ginger Carter did not specify the exact time she found Ashton in the shower or how much time the woman spent inside the bedroom. She said her husband and Ashton's father, Robert, came home soon around 4:16 p.m. and that the woman was 'not breathing or responding.' Robert Carter then tried to perform CPR on her. The police report states that Ginger Carter called 911 at 4:10 p.m. to report that Ashton was 'asleep on her bed and not breathing.' Paramedics arrived and transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:59 p.m. In 2006, Ashton appeared in the E! Entertainment Television reality series, "House of Carters" with her brother Nick, who turned 32 on January 28; her brother Aaron and his twin sister Angel, 24, and her sister Bobbie Jean, 30. The show aired for one season. Leslie Carter, sister of Nick Carter of The Backstreet Boys and pop star Aaron Carter, recently died at age 25 in upstate New York.

"Our family is grieving right now and it's a private matter," the family said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Wednesday, February 1. "We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter. We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time."

The website of the television show "Access Hollywood" reported that Leslie Carter, who is also a singer, died on Tuesday. No further details, such as the cause of death, have been released.

Leslie Carter is survived by husband Mike Ashton, who she married in 2008, and their daughter Alyssa Jane Ashton. The child was born in early April 2011. Aaron Carter had at the time offered his congratulations on Twitter.

Nick Carter performed with the Backstreet Boys during its 2011 tour with New Kids on the Block. The Backstreet Boys pop group, which plans to perform in the United Kingdom and Ireland in April, said in a series of Twitter messages on Wednesday: "Our hearts [are] with @nickcarter. RIP Leslie Carter. We will definitely send @nickcarter all your condolences and love."

Nick Carter will continue to tour with the Backstreet Boys, according to a message posted on his Facebook page.

"Performing is cathartic to me," he was quoted as saying. "I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform."
