Wilmington residents concerned about rise in crimes

WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES

There have already been five murders in Wilmington this year.

Police spoke with several hundred residents Wednesday night to address their concerns.

Authorities said they're upping patrols in the area and reassigning as many as 30 officers to Wilmington, temporarily.

Incoming Councilman Joe Buscaino said more needs to be done.

"I want to ensure that now with these five homicides in this new year that we get additional police resources here for the long-term, not just two weeks," said Buscaino.

Police said detectives are working hard to solve the recent killings.
