Gunman opens fire on 2 in unincorporated Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, told authorities they were sitting in their SUV near Gilbert Street and Katella Avenue when an armed man tried to carjack them at about 11:25 p.m.

The victims say the suspect shot each of them before they drove to a nearby gas station for help. Their wounds were not life threatening.

"There were two victims in the car," said sheriff's Lt. Lloyd Downing.. "A 21-year-old male driver was shot in the abdomen and his 28-year-old female passenger was shot in the leg."

Detectives say they have questions about the victims' account of the incident, which occurred in an area where gang activity is prevalent.

"We have detectives at the scene trying to determine exactly what happened," Downing said. "But we're not getting the whole story yet."

Anyone with information is urged to call the Orange County sheriff's tip line at (866) 847-TIP-OCSD.
