13-pound newborn baby surprises Whittier mom, doctor

WHITTIER, Calif.

"After 20,000 babies that he has delivered this is his biggest one," said mother Daniela Calderon. "I think that's awesome!"

Calderon had a healthy pregnancy. According to the ultrasound, her first baby, Jason, was going to be around 10 pounds, but she never expected him to be this big.

"He is a big baby boy," Calderon said. "I call him my ton, not my son."

Born Jan. 11, Calderon tried to deliver her son naturally, but the doctors quickly realized a cesarean was needed. But even they were surprised by the baby's size.

"That's all you heard in the background, 'a 13-pounder!' and laughing," Calderon said. "My husband goes over there and he says, "He's big!"

No newborn diapers or clothes for this big baby boy, he is already off the charts.

"He eats a lot more than regular babies, he has double the appetite," Calderon said.

Calderon and her family have big dreams for this little man, hoping his size hints at a future on the football field.
