Huntington sushi restaurant robbery suspect arrested

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.

Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Hasigo Sushi at 18685 Main Street in Huntington Beach on Friday at 9 p.m. The suspect reportedly wielded a gun. A witness gave police a partial license-plate number to the truck in which the suspect fled.

The suspect matched a description of three previous robberies committed in Long Beach the prior two days. In those robberies, the suspect had fled on a bicycle.

Detectives found a pickup truck Tuesday matching the suspect vehicle description in the Huntington Beach robbery. The truck was stopped Wednesday night and the two men inside, Anthony Bearden and Tad Bennett, were detained.

Police served a search warrant early Thursday morning at Bennett's apartment on the 300 block of Obispo Avenue in Long Beach. Evidence of the robberies was found in the residence and in the truck, according to police.

Bearden, 26, and Bennett, 27, both Long Beach residents, were booked at the Huntington Beach jail on first-degree robbery charges. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
