IE schools lose buses due to budget cuts

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif.

The Lake Elsinore School District's board of trustees voted Thursday night to eliminate its buses for grades K through 12, unless the governor and legislature decide to restore the district funding that's been cut from the state budget.

Parents and bus drivers, who could lose their jobs, took the news hard.

"We just keep knocking on Sacramento's door, we keep calling our parents, we keep telling our parents what's really happening and telling them to get their Spanish-speaking parents out there to rally for their communities because there's only so much we can do, we need those parents behind us," said bus driver Rachel Sosa.

The bus cuts would affect 3,000 students next academic year. A new bus program will be created for special education students.
