Connie Emert of Jersey Shore, Pa., says she had seen the oddly-colored squirrel in her yard for about a week and then decided to catch it to prove to her husband that she wasn't seeing things.
Emert took some photos of the squirrel and released the animal on Tuesday. The pictures were posted online, and the squirrel now has its own Facebook page and Twitter account.
A curator at the Pittsburgh Zoo says some animals can take on the color of what they eat. But he said this squirrel likely came into contact with some sort of dye.
