Megan Hilty plays Ivy Lynn in NBC's theater drama "Smash" and the next episode has Lynn going against Katharine McPhee's character Karen Cartwright for the coveted role of Marilyn Monroe on the show's musical.
To show off her vocals and a bit of vulnerability at a call back for the part, Lynn sings a cover of Carrie Underwood's "Crazy Dreams" during the February 13 episode. The Hollywood Reporter has Hilty's cover of the song here.
Hilty is a Broadway actress best known for playing Glinda in "Wicked" and Doralee Rhodes in "9 to 5: The Musical." She has also had roles on television shows like "The Closer," "Ugly Betty," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Desperate Housewives."
"Smash," which premiered on February 6, also stars Debra Messing assongwriter Julia Houston, who co-wrote the Marilyn Monroe show's lyrics, and Anjelica Huston as a producer named Eileen Rand.
"Smash is a love letter to New York and it's a love letter to the theater community and that has not been done before," Messing said in an interview provided by NBC at the show's red carpet premiere in late January. "You see a lot of people from the theater community here [at the premiere] celebrating that."
Back in November, fellow "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson covered Underwood's song "I Know You Won't" during her "VH1 Unplugged" special.
