Teens arrested in 2010 Santa Ana parking garage murder

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Irvine resident Jeffrey Chung, 23, and another man were walking to their car in a downtown Santa Ana parking garage at 201 W. 3rd Street on Oct. 2, 2010. Two suspects confronted the men and demanded money. One of the suspects allegedly had a handgun.

Chung refused and was shot in the upper torso. The two suspects then fled the scene on foot. Chung's friend was not harmed.

Police responded, and Chung was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say a concerned citizen contacted detectives about two male Hispanic juvenile gang members rumored to have committed several street robberies, including the fatal attack on Chung.

Detectives identified the two suspects, who were 14 and 15 years old at the time of the homicide, and witnesses identified the juveniles, according to police.

Police arrested the two suspects, now 16 and 17, on Thursday. They were booked for attempted robbery and murder and were placed in Juvenile Hall.
