Nicolas Cage playfully addressed Internet rumors that he is a vampire during his appearance on "The Last Show With David Letterman" on February 9.
The actor, who was on the show to promote the release of his upcoming sequel "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," was confronted by Letterman with a photo that popped up on eBay in 2011. The photo is said to be taken in 1870 and is of a man who bears a striking resemblance to the actor.
The seller of the photo claimed the man in the photo was Nicolas Cage and that the actor is a vampire.
"Let me say that there is a resemblance," Cage told Letterman. "But how can I be polite about this? It's a somewhat slowed-down version of me."
"There are some similarities," Letterman added.
"Except there's a photograph of me and you can't take photos of vampires," Cage said. "Now look, I don't drink blood and last time I looked in the mirror I had a reflection so, I'm not going with this vampire theory. I'm just not going to do it."
The actor also talked about Charlie Sheen and Sheen's claim that he got the term "goddess" -- when referring to his girlfriends -- from Cage. Starting in March 2011, Sheen began doing rants in interviews and Internet videos and called his live-in girlfriends at the time, the "goddesses" -- Natalie Kenly, a graphic designer and Rachel Oberlin, a porn star.
"Well there is some truth in that, yes," Cage said. "Because we were flying from LA to San Francisco and I did refer to a flight attendant as a goddess, but I had no idea that in 23 years, Charlie would make it an international reference point for the women in his life."
"But I had much worse things to be concerned about on that plane than that," Cage added. "I did not know Charlie had an 8-ball of cocaine wrapped around his ankle."
Cage goes on to explain how he nearly got arrested after the flight for pretending to be the pilot making an announcement over the PA system. Check out the interview below.
"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" is due out February 17. It is the sequel to the 2007 film "Ghost Rider" also starring Cage. The actor most recently starred in "Season of the Witch" and "Drive Angry 3D." Cage won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in the 1995 movie, "Leaving Las Vegas."
