Just before the death of Whitney Houston on February 11, the legendary singer was rumored to be involved with singer Ray J, the brother of R&B singer and actress Brandy.
The previous week, the two had been see going to dinner together. In an interview for his new book "Death of the Cheating Man," due out on February 14, Ray J didn't confirm whether the two were ever romantically involved but said he had "a lot of love" for the singer.
"I've been knowing her for years and years and years," Ray J told The Insider about Houston in an interview taped before the signer's death. "When we go out it's just, the next day it's everywhere and there's so many different stories but that's my people, that's my friend."Houston died at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, February 11. The singer was found "underwater" and "apparently unconscious" inside a bathtub in a room on the fourth floor.
"You know what I have a lot of love for her and I have a lot of respect for her," the 31-year-old added. "I just think that our friendship is something that people might not really understand because of the age difference but we've always just been friends."
Ray J went on to say about their relationship status, "We've always kept our relationship as private as we could but when we go out she's such an icon that it reaches the masses but for the most part we've always been friends and we always kept everything just hush hush and just quiet and, you know, we really don't focus on that."
In his new book, Ray J describes his relationship with a woman named "KK." The singer once dated reality star Kim Kardashian and a sex tape of the two was leaked in February 2007. In his book he says KK and him had "wild and extreme sexual chemistry."
However, Ray J is quick to tell the entertainment outlet, "I really don't mention any names in the book. I kind of leave it open because I didn't want to make it a tell all, I wanted to make it a book about revelation about the things that I've done and the things I want to do in the future."
"It's not about the person, it's about the situation," he added when pressed to confirm if "KK" was Kim Kardashian. Ray J went on to describe the situation and said he was "hypnotized" by "KK."
"The relationship with KK, it ended because we just felt like, you know, we were friends, we were honest with each other but as far as our commitment as a one on one relationship, that just wasn't working," he added. "We've moved on and everything is still cool."
