For Selena Gomez and boyfriend Justin Bieber, it was always about pancakes.
The two grabbed breakfast at an IHOP branch in Encino, near Los Angeles, on Wednesday, according to E! News, which posted a paparazzi photo of the them leaving the restaurant.
Gomez, who is 19 and recently obtained a sparkly "J" ring, and Bieber, who turns 18 on March 1, have been together for more than a year now. They first sparked dating rumors in December 2010 when they were photographed at - where else - an IHOP, located in Philadelphia.
At the time, Gomez told MTV: "It was pancakes. Who doesn't like pancakes? We were both performing in the same place so we went and had pancakes together. That's all it is. All innocent."
The following month, in January 2011, the two were photographed kissing and getting grabby in St. Lucia to ring in the New Year. After the pictures surfaced online, Gomez received death threats. Weeks later, there were photographed together again, holding hands and finally stepped out publicly together at Vanity Fair's 2011 Oscar after party.
Throughout the next few months, Bieber and Gomez kept mum about the status of their relationship, although she did say that she tries to ignore the negative online comments.
Later that year, in July, Bieber made a surprise appearance at his girlfriend's concert in Costa Mesa, California. He and Gomez also crashed a wedding of a California couple, who called the experience "surreal."
In November, Gomez and Bieber again visited an IHOP in the Los Angeles area, as seen in photos posted on the Just Jared website.
Also that month, the two weathered a paternity scandal. Bieber was sued by a woman named Mariah Yeater, who claimed he had fathered her baby. He denied this and later said on "The Late Show With David Letterman" that he took a DNA test to prove the child was not his.
Bieber and Gomez appear to still be going strong but continue to try to keep details about their relationship private. They have been photographed in Disneyland together and on Wednesday, in addition to their IHOP date, the pair also ate at Chuck E. Cheese with Bieber's younger siblings, Jaxon and Jazmyn, later in the day, the Just Jared website reported.
Earlier this month, the two sparked rumors of an engagement when Gomez was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her engagement finger. Her spokesperson denied the female singer had plans to wed.
The two have not commented about the matter publicly. Gomez was seen wearing a sparkly ring in a concert in Urugary (see photos) and on February 12, she posted on her Instagram page a photo of a hand wearing a diamond-encrusted ring that bore the initial "J," writing: "I'm finally home."
