State bill to prevent molesters from teaching

SACRAMENTO

The bill would require state agencies to report child sex abuse investigations to the Department of Justice. That is currently not a requirement.

"It would require the Department of Justice to make that information known in its criminal background checks that local jurisdictions, school districts, conduct while they're looking to hire new teachers and staff," said Rep. Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento).

Dickinson says the bill will close a loophole in the law that has allowed child abusers and predators to continue to teach.
