February 18, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
A skydiver has died after crashing to the ground during a skydiving competition at the Perris Valley Skydiving Facility.

Sean Carey, 35, of San Diego hit the ground shortly after 9 a.m. on Saturday during a solo maneuver. He was rushed to Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Last year there were five skydiving fatalities at the Perris Valley facility.

The most recent was in December, when an experienced 32-year-old Canadian skydiver died from a hard landing.

Earlier last year, four people died and one person was seriously injured in three separate skydiving incidents at the airport.
