'Safe House,' 'The Vow' vie for No. 1 box office spot

LOS ANGELES

"Safe House" starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds took in $24 million. But "The Vow" is close behind with $23.6 million.

Final numbers will be released Tuesday.

Meanwhile, "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" came in third with $22 million. "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" ranked fourth with $20.1 million and "This Means War" debuted in fifth place bringing in $17.6 million dollars.

As of now, the top films of the weekend were:

1. "Safe House," $24 million ($6 million international).
2. "The Vow," $23.6 million ($6.8 million international).
3. "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," $22 million.
4. "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," $20.1 million ($26 million international).
5. "This Means War," $17.6 million ($11 million international).
6. "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" in 3-D, $7.9 million ($10 million international).
7. "Chronicle," $7.5 million.
8. "The Woman in Black," $6.6 million ($8.4 million international).
9. "The Secret World of Arrietty," $6.4 million.
10. "The Grey," $3 million.
