Prop 8 backers seek review of gay marriage case

SAN FRANCISCO

A three-judge panel ruled that the voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage violated the constitutional rights of gays and lesbians.

Now, supporters of the ban are appealing to a larger circuit court panel, vowing to take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary.

Either way, the latest appeal means same-sex marriages will remain on hold in California at least until the 9th Circuit decides to accept or reject the rehearing petition.
