Jennifer Lopez arrived at the 2012 Oscar ceremony on Sunday in a nude, shimmering Zuhair Murad gown with a plunging neckline that showed off her cleavage - but did it show too much?
Scores of people commented online that they thought actress, singer and "American Idol" host had a wardrobe malfunction while presenting the Oscar for Achievement in Costume Design with Cameron Diaz, her co-star in the new film "What to Expect When You're Expecting". The award went to Mark Bridges of "The Artist."
While presenting, the two actress quoted a line from Oscar-winning costume designer Edith Head.
"A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman," Diaz said.
"And loose enough to prove you're a lady," Lopez finished.
The actress' stylist, Mariel Haenn, took to Twitter to comment about the speculation.
"The Oscar dress was custom made for @Jlo by Zuhair Murad," she said. "The dress fit perfectly to her every inch. There were cups built in ...and in NO chance that there were any, how do you say? @Jlo 'slips.'"
"@Jlo dress gave illusion! jokes on every1 who thought they saw something!" Haenn said, adding: "If u thought that dress was hot, wait & see what's next!"
The apparent wardrobe malfunction spurred a fan to create a Twitter account called "@JLosNipple." Haenn referenced in a Tweet, saying: "HEEYY! @JLosNipple PIPE DOWN! NO one ever saw you!"
"Such a NON-troversy!" she added on Monday. "HI-larious."
Lopez has pushed the envelope when it comes to cleavage in the past. She famously wore an almost gravity-defying green Versace gown to the 2000 Grammy Awards. "South Park" co-creator Trey Parker parodied the look at the Oscars that year.
Angelina Jolie's Oscars look also spurred its own Twitter page, due to her constant exposure of her leg through her dress' slit. Her pose was mimicked on stage by Oscar winner Jim Rash, who shared an Academy Award victory with "The Descendants" screenwriters.
"What to Expect When You're Expecting," a romantic comedy about the lives of five couples set to become parents, is set to be released on May 18. The movie also stars Elizabeth Banks, Chace Crawford, Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, Dennis Quaid, Brooklyn Decker, Matthew Morrison and Megan Mullally.
