Zac Efrom gave a coy smile when "The Today Show" co-host Matt Lauer asked him about his recent mishap at "The Lorax" premiere on February 19.
The actor admitted that he did drop a condom after reaching into his pocket at the premiere. In a video of the incident, he can be seen picking up the condom and mouthing "Oh my god," to his publicist.
"Do you want to give me a hint as what happened? You dropped something on the red carpet," Lauer asked Efron.
"I did. I never had a pocket-checking policy prior to going onto the red carpet before, but now we fully instated one prior to going on the red carpet," Efron responded.
Lauer asked, "You dropped a condom?"
Efron replied, "Yeah."
"I think it gives you credit. Better to be safe than sorry, right," Lauer later said.
"It's a great message, to add to the many messages in the film," Efron replied.
The incident was captured on video, which can be seen below. Efron can also be seen turning his back to photographers for a few seconds while trying to suppress a laugh. Photos from the premiere can be seen here.
The actor lent his voice to the lead character in the children's film, based on the children's book of the same name written by Dr. Seuss in 1971. Taylor Swift, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms and Betty White also lend their voices in the film, which is due out March 2.
In the past, Efron dated his "High School Musical" co-star Vanessa Hudgens from 2007 to 2010. He has also been linked to Rumer Willis and Lily Collins.
Up next, Efron will appear in "The Lucky One," based off the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name. The actor buzzed off his famous hair and bulked up for his role in the film, where he plays a marine that survived three tours of duty in Iraq. "The Lucky One" is slated for release on April 20, 2012.
