Nick Cannon says he has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease similar to lupus, following weeks of health "attacks" that landed him in the hospital.

He adds he is "winning this battle" and is now trying to become healthier. The 31-year-old "America's Got Talent" host appeared to be in good spirits as he helped his wife, Mariah Carey, christen the Disney Fantasy cruise ship in the Hudson River in New York City on Thursday. In January, Cannon was treated for what his wife, singer Mariah Carrey, called "mild kidney failure." Cannon said on February 17 that he had to leave his New York-based 92.3 NOW radio show, "Rollin,'" by orders of his doctors, who found blood clots in his lungs.

Cannon recently revealed to People magazine that he was told that his kidney problems were caused by an incurable "autoimmune disease," which he described as "a lupus type of thing" that no one else in his family has.

"Sending lots and lots of positive energy to @NickCannon," Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Records, Tweeted on Friday, March 2."

"Thank you sir! Don't worry, I'm winning this battle!" Cannon replied. "I feel great today! These attacks can't stop me. Strong Faith!"

Lady Gaga revealed in 2010 that she "tested borderline positive" for lupus but does not show symptoms of the disease. The ailment causes the immune system to attack the body's tissues and organs and can lead to kidney and even heart damage.

"I'm trying to get healthier," Cannon said on his website on Friday, March 2.

He also posted a video of Carey's first performance since giving birth to their twins, Monroe and Moroccan, who also go by "Roc and Roe," in April 2011. She sang at the "Plot Your Escape" concert in Gotham Hall in New York City on Thursday.

Disney Fantasy ship christening

The Disney Fantasy is the fourth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Carey had a No. 1 pop hit titled "Fantasy" in 1995.

The musical event was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, who called the vessel "incredible," and also featured a stand-up comedy performance from Jerry Seinfeld (see video).

"Oh my god. I'm on a boat!" he joked.

Carey joined Disney CEO Bob Iger and the crowd in a toast, which also featured another special guest.

"I'm so excited to be here, Mickey, as always. Fabulous ensemble," Carey said, adding: "I didn't want Minnie to go out by herself so I asked my hubby, my sweetheart Nick Cannon, to be her escort."

Cannon then appeared alongside the character as his wife led the crowd in a countdown chant.

"I christen thee Disney Fantasy," Carey said, just before glittering confetti rained down. "May God bless this ship and all who sail on her."
