Alex O'Loughlin is taking a break from "Hawaii Five-0" to seek treatment for pain medication, the actor's rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

"Alex is taking a short break from 'Hawaii Five-0' to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury," O'Loughlin's rep told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

Deadline reports that the 35-year-old actor will miss at least one episode of the CBS series, which is already ahead of schedule filming season two.

"We respect and support Alex's decision," CBS Studios said in a statement. "Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return."

Aside from his role as Lt. Commander Steve McGarrett on the revival of the popular crime drama, the Australian actor is best known for his role in the vampire series "Moonlight" and for starring opposite Jennifer Lopez in "The Back-up Plan."

He has also appeared on TV series like "The Shield" and "Three Rivers" and in films like "August Rush" and "Whiteout."
