Uggie, the dog featured in the Academy Award-nominated film 'The Artist,' was named "spokesdog" for Nintendo and had his first day of work this week.
The gaming company featured the famous Jack Russell Terrier in a YouTube Video (Watch below) on his first day, where he is testing the Nintendo 3DS game "Nintendogs + Cats" and meets the big boss - Mario.
Uggie joined his fellow cast members from "The Artist" at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26, where the silent film earned five awards, including the coveted Best Picture Oscar.
Michel Hazanavicius won the Oscar for Directing and Jean Dujardin won the Actor in a Leading Role award for the black-and-white French film. "The Artist" also won for Costume Design and Original Score. Check out the full list of 2012 Oscar winners here.
Omar von Muller, Uggie's trainer talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about the canine's upcoming retirement plans when the cast of "The Artist" received the first ever "Made In Hollywood" award on Tuesday, January 31.
"It has meant a lot, it has opened a lot of doors," von Mueller told George Pennacchio of KABC Television, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company about Uggie's role in the film. "Unfortunately he is getting ready to retire. He's 10 years old so I don't think we're going to put him through long hours anymore."
"He's an old man. I mean, in human years he's about 70," von Mueller said about Uggie. "So little things here and there but definitely long movies are out of the question."
Uggie also appeared alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in "Water for Elephants." His brother, a Jack Russell Terrier named Dash, is set to replace him.
The Jack Russell Terrier stole the spotlight from his human co-stars when he appeared on stage at the Golden Globes on January 15. Check out a video of Uggie walking the red carpet at the event here.
