Masked man robs Menifee bank, flees in stolen car

A masked man who claimed to be armed robbed a Menifee bank and fled in a stolen car on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

A search is under way for a man who robbed a bank in Menifee and got away in a stolen car, officials said.

The man, who claimed to be armed, wore a mask and gloves when he held up the BBVA Compass Bank branch in the 28000 block of Bradley Road at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

After the suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, he fled in a car that was later discovered abandoned in a nearby parking lot. Deputies discovered that the car was recently stolen in Menifee.

It was not clear if the suspect fled the area in another getaway car or if he had an accomplice.
