Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child, following weeks of reports and a denial last month, and adds that she is engaged to the father-to-be, boyfriend Jionni LaValle.
The 24-year-old actress, the breakout star of the raunchy MTV reality show "Jersey Shore," announced the news on Wednesday, March 7, in an interview with Us Weekly, which features her on the cover of its latest issue. Polizzi sports what appears to be a small baby bump and is wearing a loose-fitting, corset-style, pink slip dress.
"Nicole is thrilled to finally be able to share her happy news with her fans," Polizzi's spokesperson said in a statement to OnTheRedCarpet.com, regarding the actress' pregnancy and engagement.
Polizzi, who will be the first "Jersey Shore" star to have a baby, told the magazine she is 15 weeks along. LaValle called the pregnancy a "happy accident," adding: "We are not going to screw this up."
Polizzi also said that she found out she was pregnant shortly after partaking in some holiday drinking. The reality star is known for her love of partying and was in 2010 arrested for public intoxication and interfering with "the public's right to find enjoyment on the beach" while filming "Jersey Shore." She told Us Weekly that she now vows to refrain from consuming alcohol and caffeine during her pregnancy.
"It was New Year's Eve and we were in Vegas, so I did go crazy," she said. "I have different priorities now. I don't care what anybody else thinks. As long as I know I'm ready and he's ready."
An MTV spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a statement on Wednesday that the cable network supports Polizzi as she "starts this new chapter of her life." The future of "Jersey Shore," however, remains uncertain. The show has not yet been renewed for a sixth season. The season 5 finale airs on March 15.
Why Snooki denied pregnancy reports
The tabloid Star magazine reported several weeks ago that Snooki is expecting her first child. She denied the report on shows such as ABC's "Good Morning America" and "LIVE! with Kelly."
People magazine recently quoted a source as saying Polizzi was expecting a baby and she was also photographed wearing what appears to be a diamond engagement ring. The usually outspoken reality star kept mum about the issue on her popular Twitter page, but did hint about having cravings.
Polizzi told Us Weekly that she "wanted to make sure the baby is OK," adding: "Things can go wrong, like a miscarriage. It was my business, and I wasn't ready to tell."
The New York Post had reported on February 29 that Polizzi "has already brokered a deal to announce the news on the cover of Us Weekly after she shopped the story to several celebrity magazines." She has not commented about the report or confirmed whether or not she was paid for her cover story and exclusive interview, which is common practice in the celebrity world.
Polizzi and LaValle began dating in 2010. She said previously that she tried on a $500,000 engagement ring over the holidays, but her boyfriend made her take it off.
