OTRC: Liam Hemsworth: 'The Hunger Games' is 'one of the most powerful films' (Video)

Liam Hemsworth appears at the Los Angeles premiere of 'The Hunger Games' on March 12, 2012.

Liam Hemsworth says he thinks "The Hunger Games" is one of the "most powerful films" he's ever seen and is "trying to prepare" for the craziness that comes with being part of something with such a massive fan following.

The 20-year-old Australian actor plays Gale Hawthorne, the best friend of heroine Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. He made his comments to OnTheRedCarpet.com at the recent Los Angeles premiere for the film.

In "The Hunger Games," Everdeen lives in a post-apocalyptic future where a boy and girl from various districts are chosen and taken to a massive area where they must survive and fight to death.

This annual event, dubbed The Hunger Games, takes place in front of cameras, who broadcast their every move to viewers. Everdeen volunteers to be a tribute, or fighter, for her District 12.

"I believe it's one of the most powerful films I've seen," Hemsworth told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I was extremely nervous before I saw it the first time. I think I feel a lot more at ease now that I feel it's a great film. I think audiences and fans of the book are going to like it."

The premiere attracted hundreds of screaming fans despite the fact that the movie is set for release on March 23. The story, which is based on a book series by Suzanne Collins, has a massive following, mostly by teenage girls. Hemsworth attended the premiere with girlfriend Miley Cyrus, his co-star from the 2010 movie "The Last Song."

"It's a little crazy," he said about the premiere. "I feel very fortunate to be where I am and be a part of this process. I'm trying to prepare for [the craziness] as much as I can. I feel like I'm really on a crazy ride right now. I feel very happy to be where I am."

Josh Hutcherson, who plays Everdeen's other love interest, Peeta Mellark, told OnTheRedCarpet.com he's already been getting plenty of marriage proposals.
