Madeleine Stowe sent television audiences buzzing when she appeared as the icy cold Victoria Grayson on "Revenge" in the fall. However the actress, who had big roles in films like "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Twelve Monkeys" before taking a break from acting, says she's excited for the new revival in her career.
"I've had a very long career and then I disappeared for a long time," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the PaleyFest panel for "Revenge" on March 11. "I feel very grateful and at the same time partly dethatched and partly excited."
Stowe took a few breaks from acting to focus on motherhood. The actress has a daughter named May with husband Brian Benben.
Her character on the series is a scheming socialite whose son Daniel (played by Joshua Bowman) falls for Emily Thorne (played by Emily Van Camp) who is seeking to ruin the Grayson clan for destroying her life.
"She's a very strange mixture of things," Stowe said about her character. "She's ruthless on one hand and incredibly tender and very sexual on the other but she does play some very questionable tactics to ensure her son's safety."
Stowe also explained her method of nailing Victoria's harsh gaze. "It's just about like looking at somebody and thinking 'You are so full of 'Fill in the blank.' It's just always trying to filter what I'm hearing through what I'm actually feeling from another character," she said.
The actress talked to us at the 2012 Golden Globes called her character "heinous."
"Hopefully we like to hate her. We always have to have that kind of villainy around," she added. "It takes me quite by surprise, the whole thing does, but it's lovely."
"Revenge" returns with a new episode on April 11 on ABC. ABC is the parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com.
