Jewelry store owner shoots robbery suspect

FULLERTON, Calif.

Fullerton Police said four suspects entered All Phases Jewelers at 521 W. Commonwealth Ave. at about 12:50 p.m. and attempted to rob the store. A physical scuffle broke out and the store owner reportedly shot one of the suspects.

The suspects all fled in a Ford minivan. The suspects then reportedly abandoned the minivan around the corner and fled in a Chevrolet Tahoe, which then crashed into a parked car on Malden Ave. near Wilshire Ave. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Fullerton police officers detained all five suspects within a five-block radius.

One of the suspects, Los Angeles resident Nelvin Cook, 23, was transported to UCI Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds.

According to police, the other four suspects were transported to the Fullerton Police Department Jail for booking. The four suspects who were booked were identified as Randolph Long, 21 of Houston, Texas; Devon Ridge, 22, of Compton; Obiesie Enwezor, 18, of Los Angeles; and Jayson Coleman, 20 of Los Angeles.

A handgun was recovered at one of the arrest scenes.
