Kate Middleton gives first public speech

IPSWICH, England

Wearing a royal blue dress and black belt, the Duchess of Cambridge greeted fans before giving her speech. She is a patron of the hospice, which helps children with life-threatening conditions.

During a particularly light moment, the duchess mentioned her husband, Prince William.

"I feel hugely honored to be here to see this wonderful center. I'm only sorry William can't be here today. He would love it here," she said as the crowd chuckled.

The duchess planned to spend the day touring the center and meeting with the children and staff.
