Comedian Gallagher out of coma after heart attack, telling jokes

LEWISVILLE, Texas

Doctors slowly woke up Gallagher, whose full name is Leo Anthony Gallagher, on Sunday morning. He immediately recognized his family and started talking to them, according to his promotional manager Christine Scherrer. She says he's breathing on his own, moving and joking around.

Doctors replaced two stints after Gallagher suffered a heart attack before a performance in Texas last week.

Scherrer said the comedian is doing well. There's no word how long he'll remain hospitalized.

The 65-year-old is best known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer on stage.
