Police arrested the 50-year-old after on suspicion of drug possession with intent to sell. Officers said they saw DeBarge taking part in a possible narcotics transaction at White Oak Avenue, north of the 101 Freeway. DeBarge was released after posting $30,000 bail.
Police also arrested a second man, Curtis Freeman, for suspicion of attempted narcotics possession. Prosecutors decided there just wasn't sufficient evidence to file charges against either man.
DeBarge is best known for his song "Rhythm of the Night" in the mid-1980s.
