Mission Hills murder: Suspect photo released

MISSION HILLS, LOS ANGELES

Authorities said a security guard called police at about 6:30 a.m., saying there was a trail of blood leading down to the basement at the Facey Medical Group in the 11200 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard, located next to the LAPD Mission Community Police Station.

Investigators found the body of 43-year-old Florentino Reyes in the basement just below the urgent care clinic. Friends and family of the victim came to the crime scene after hearing the devastating news.

"We have no information at all, like what could lead to something like that, but the only thing they told me is that he's dead. It's very sad. He was a nice man," said the victim's cousin Enrique Lucas.

Police identified Jesus Bautista Maldonado as a potential suspect in the case. They worked together as janitors for same subcontractor to Facey Medical Group. Police have determined that he was stabbed to death sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.

"The suspect is outstanding right now. We do have leads that we're looking at, and we'll follow up on those," said LAPD Lt. Robert Rivers.

As investigators taped off the parking lot, it was business as usual inside the Facey Medical Group building, which has doctor's offices and an urgent-care unit.

"We are open for business," said Karen Kowalski of Facey Medical Group. "Parking may be affected. However, the police department will be escorting people in."
