For fans of The D, this may be the greatest news in the world.
Actors and musicians Jack Black and Kyle Gass of the "mock rock" duo Tenacious D have written some new tasty jams and are set to release their first studio album in six years and rock fans' socks off with a tour that will take them across the United States as well as Europe.
The new record is called "Rize of the Fenix" and it is set to be released on May 15. It contains songs such as "Ballad of Hollywood Jack and the Rage Kage," "Rock is Dead" and "To Be The Best." A music video for the latter track was posted online. The action-packed mini-movie features cameos from the likes of Josh Groban, Jimmy Kimmel, Maria Menounos, Tim Robbins, Val Kilmer and Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, who plays drums on the album.
Grohl has performed with Tenacious D before and played a demon in the music clip for the duo's first single, the 2002 commercial hit "Tribute."
"Rize of the Fenix" is the follow-up to the 2006 album "The Pick of Destiny" and was recorded in producer John Jimbrough's garage.
Tenacious D's musicians parody rock and heavy metal greats in their performances. The duo is known for previous tracks such as "Wonder Boy," "Sasquach" and "Dio" - a tribute to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio. He died in 2010, years after the song was recorded. The late rocker and Grohl also appeared in a movie based on the music of "The Pick of Destiny."
Tenacious D's tour begins in Santa Barbara, California, on May 24 and runs through the end of June. The duo will also play at the Sasquach Festival in George, Washington on May 28.
