OTRC: Jennie Garth on divorce: 'I didn't want it to happen'

Peter Facinelli filed from divorce from Jennie Garth yesterday and the actress has already opened up about the couple's split.

"I was very resistant," she told People magazine in a new interview about the divorce. "I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."

The actress notes that Facinelli's career began to heat up in 2010 after nabbing roles in "The Twilight Saga" franchise as Dr. Carlisle Cullen and in the Showtime series "Nurse Jackie." The actor began to commute from Vancouver, where "Twilight" filmed, and the New York set of "Nurse Jackie," to the couple's home in Santa Ynez Valley in California.

"He would do everything he could to fly back every weekend," Garth told the magazine. "[But] it took a real toll on our marriage."

Facinelli, 38, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and listed January 1 as the official date of separation. He married Garth, 39, on Jan 20, 2001. He filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 28 and the actress has already filed her response. The two have agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of their three daughters - 14-year-old Luca, 9-year-old Lola and 5-year-old Fiona.

After the pair announced their split officially on March 13, online reports of alleged cheating surfaced. The two said in a statement that the "rumors" were "completely untrue" and "hurtful" to their family, adding: "We just want to make it very clear - there are no third parties involved."

Facinelli and Garth have been together since 1996, when they met on the set of a made-for-TV movie called "An Unfinished Affair."

The actor also plays Dr. Fitch Cooper on the Showtime series "Nurse Jackie" and has appeared on the shows "Damages" and "Six Feet Under" and portrayed a macho high school senior in the 1998 cult comedy movie "Can't Hardly Wait."

Garth played Kelly Taylor on the hit series "Beverly Hills, 90210" from 1990 to 2000. She later reprised the role in the spin-off series "90210" for two seasons. She also appeared opposite Amanda Bynes in the series "What I Like About You" and competed on season 5 of "Dancing With The Stars" in 2007. She was partnered with Derek Hough and finished in fourth place.

Garth has a new reality series called "Jennie Garth: A Little Bit of Country" set to premiere on CMT on April 20. The series chronicles Garth and her family's transition from life in Los Angeles to a farm house in Santa Ynez Valley. The show will deal with Garth's split from Facinelli, who will not appear in the show.
